Beware Tesla: Hyundai Unveils IONIQ 6 Four-Door Electric Coupe

Lately, Hyundai hasn’t bothered too much with the visual continuity of its cars, leaving designers plenty of room for creativity. This confirms the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the manufacturer’s new electric vehicle based on the Prophecy concept shown in 2020. According to Hyundai, the model’s designers were inspired by the streamline concept, which was heavily used in the design of trains and airplanes in the 1930s.

Despite the obvious relationship with the Ioniq 5, the design of the new electric car is noticeably different. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has sleeker lines, a subtle trunk lid spoiler and pixelated lights that form a large LED panel at the rear. Customers will be offered 18-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels to choose from.

Inside, the resemblance to the Ioniq 5 is more noticeable. The car has the same 12-inch digital instrument panel with a similar touch screen multimedia system. Top modifications of Ioniq 6 will receive cameras instead of door mirrors.

In addition, the interior of the electric car will have fully reclining front seats. They will fold almost flat so that the driver and passenger can rest comfortably while the car is on recharging.

Hyundai is yet to reveal full specifications, but it is tentatively known that the Ioniq 6 will use a new generation battery with a capacity above 77.4kWh, which is available in the recently updated Ioniq 5.

Given the more aerodynamic design, it’s reasonable to assume that the Ioniq 6 will have a longer range than the Ioniq 5, which, according to official figures, can travel 500 km on a full charge. If yes, then it will compete with i4 (up to 580 km), Polestar 2 (540 km) and Model 3 Long Range (600 km).

Nothing has been revealed about the power of the car yet, but the rear-wheel drive Ioniq 5 with 225 horsepower can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds. As with the close relative of the Kia EV6, a more powerful all-wheel drive version of the car will be available.

In terms of pricing, the Ioniq 6 is expected to start at around $55,000 and sales of the electric vehicle should begin as early as next year.
